তারা বলল, তুমি তোমার পালনকর্তার কাছে আমাদের জন্য প্রার্থনা কর, যেন সেটির রূপ বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়। মূসা (আঃ) বললেন, তিনি বলছেন, সেটা হবে একটা গাভী, যা বৃদ্ধ নয় এবং কুমারীও নয়-বার্ধক্য ও যৌবনের মাঝামাঝি বয়সের। এখন আদিষ্ট কাজ করে ফেল।
They said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what (heifer) it is!" He said; "He says: The heifer should be neither too old nor too young, but of middling age. Now do what ye are commanded!" |

যখন তাদেরকে বলা হয়, আল্লাহ যা পাঠিয়েছেন তা মেনে নাও, তখন তারা বলে, আমরা মানি যা আমাদের প্রতি অবর্তীণ হয়েছে। সেটি ছাড়া সবগুলোকে তারা অস্বীকার করে। অথচ এ গ্রন্থটি সত্য এবং সত্যায়ন করে ঐ গ্রন্থের যা তাদের কাছে রয়েছে। বলে দিন, তবে তোমরা ইতিপূর্বে পয়গম্বরদের হত্যা করতে কেন যদি তোমরা বিশ্বাসী ছিলে?
When it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah Hath sent down, "they say, "We believe in what was sent down to us:" yet they reject all besides, even if it be Truth confirming what is with them. Say: "Why then have ye slain the prophets of Allah in times gone by, if ye did indeed believe?" |

তিনি নভোমন্ডল ও ভূমন্ডলের উদ্ভাবক। যখন তিনি কোন কার্য সম্পাদনের সিন্ধান্ত নেন, তখন সেটিকে একথাই বলেন, ‘হয়ে যাও’ তৎক্ষণাৎ তা হয়ে যায়।
To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: When He decreeth a matter, He saith to it: "Be," and it is. |

এটা হলো সামান্য ফায়দা-এরপর তাদের ঠিকানা হবে দোযখ। আর সেটি হলো অতি নিকৃষ্ট অবস্থান।
Little is it for enjoyment: Their ultimate abode is Hell: what an evil bed (To lie on)! |

তারপর মূসা যখন আমার প্রতিশ্রুত সময় অনুযায়ী এসে হাযির হলেন এবং তাঁর সাথে তার পরওয়ারদেগার কথা বললেন, তখন তিনি বললেন, হে আমার প্রভু, তোমার দীদার আমাকে দাও, যেন আমি তোমাকে দেখতে পাই। তিনি বললেন, তুমি আমাকে কস্মিনকালেও দেখতে পাবে না, তবে তুমি পাহাড়ের দিকে দেখতে থাক, সেটি যদি স্বস্থানে দঁড়িয়ে থাকে তবে তুমিও আমাকে দেখতে পাবে। তারপর যখন তার পরওয়ারদগার পাহাড়ের উপর আপন জ্যোতির বিকিরণ ঘটালেন, সেটিকে বিধ্বস্ত করে দিলেন এবং মূসা অজ্ঞান হয়ে পড়ে গেলেন। অতঃপর যখন তাঁর জ্ঞান ফিরে এল; বললেন, হে প্রভু! তোমার সত্তা পবিত্র, তোমার দরবারে আমি তওবা করছি এবং আমিই সর্বপ্রথম বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করছি।
When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said: "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said: "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe." |

আর বানিয়ে নিল মূসার সম্প্রদায় তার অনুপস্থিতিতে নিজেদের অলংকারাদির দ্বারা একটি বাছুর তা থেকে বেরুচ্ছিল ‘হাম্বা হাম্বা’ শব্দ। তারা কি একথাও লক্ষ্য করল না যে, সেটি তাদের সাথে কথাও বলছে না এবং তাদেরকে কোন পথও বাতলে দিচ্ছে না! তারা সেটিকে উপাস্য বানিয়ে নিল। বস্তুতঃ তারা ছিল জালেম।
The people of Moses made, in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of calf, (for worship): it seemed to low: did they not see that it could neither speak to them, nor show them the way? They took it for worship and they did wrong. |

আর যখন আমি তুলে ধরলাম পাহাড়কে তাদের উপরে সামিয়ানার মত এবং তারা ভয় করতে লাগল যে, সেটি তাদের উপর পড়বে, তখন আমি বললাম, ধর, যা আমি তোমাদের দিয়েছি, দৃঢ়ভাবে এবং স্মরণ রেখো যা তাতে রয়েছে, যেন তোমরা বাঁচতে পার।
When We shook the Mount over them, as if it had been a canopy, and they thought it was going to fall on them (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you, and bring (ever) to remembrance what is therein; perchance ye may fear Allah." |

আপনাকে জিজ্ঞেস করে, কেয়ামত কখন অনুষ্ঠিত হবে? বলে দিন এর খবর তো আমার পালনকর্তার কাছেই রয়েছে। তিনিই তা অনাবৃত করে দেখাবেন নির্ধারিত সময়ে। আসমান ও যমীনের জন্য সেটি অতি কঠিন বিষয়। যখন তা তোমাদের উপর আসবে অজান্তেই এসে যাবে। আপনাকে জিজ্ঞেস করতে থাকে, যেন আপনি তার অনুসন্ধানে লেগে আছেন। বলে দিন, এর সংবাদ বিশেষ করে আল্লাহর নিকটই রয়েছে। কিন্তু তা অধিকাংশ লোকই উপলব্ধি করে না।
They ask thee about the (final) Hour - when will be its appointed time? Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (alone): None but He can reveal as to when it will occur. Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will it come to you." They ask thee as if thou Wert eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know not." |

আর যখন আল্লাহ দু’টি দলের একটির ব্যাপারে তোমাদের সাথে ওয়াদা করেছিলেন যে, সেটি তোমাদের হস্তগত হবে, আর তোমরা কামনা করছিলে যাতে কোন রকম কন্টক নেই, তাই তোমাদের ভাগে আসুক; অথচ আল্লাহ চাইতেন সত্যকে স্বীয় কালামের মাধ্যমে সত্যে পরিণত করতে এবং কাফেরদের মূল কর্তন করে দিতে,
Behold! Allah promised you one of the two (enemy) parties, that it should be yours: Ye wished that the one unarmed should be yours, but Allah willed to justify the Truth according to His words and to cut off the roots of the Unbelievers;- |

তুমি কখনো সেখানে দাড়াবে না, তবে যে মসজিদের ভিত্তি রাখা হয়েছে তাকওয়ার উপর প্রথম দিন থেকে, সেটিই তোমার দাঁড়াবার যোগ্য স্থান। সেখানে রয়েছে এমন লোক, যারা পবিত্রতাকে ভালবাসে। আর আল্লাহ পবিত্র লোকদের ভালবাসেন।
Never stand thou forth therein. There is a mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety; it is more worthy of the standing forth (for prayer) therein. In it are men who love to be purified; and Allah loveth those who make themselves pure. |

আমি মূসাকে কিতাব দিয়েছি এবং সেটিকে বনী-ইসরাঈলের জন্যে হেদায়েতে পরিণত করেছি যে, তোমরা আমাকে ছাড়া কাউকে কার্যনিবাহী স্থির করো না।
We gave Moses the Book, and made it a Guide to the Children of Israel, (commanding): "Take not other than Me as Disposer of (your) affairs." |

আপনি কোন কাজের বিষয়ে বলবেন না যে, সেটি আমি আগামী কাল করব।
Nor say of anything, "I shall be sure to do so and so tomorrow"- |

অতঃপর তারা চলতে লাগল, অবশেষে যখন একটি জনপদের অধিবাসীদের কাছে পৌছে তাদের কাছে খাবার চাইল, তখন তারা তাদের অতিথেয়তা করতে অস্বীকার করল। অতঃপর তারা সেখানে একটি পতনোম্মুখ প্রাচীর দেখতে পেলেন, সেটি তিনি সোজা করে দাঁড় করিয়ে দিলেন। মূসা বললেনঃ আপনি ইচ্ছা করলে তাদের কাছ থেকে এর পারিশ্রমিক আদায় করতে পারতেন।
Then they proceeded: until, when they came to the inhabitants of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused them hospitality. They found there a wall on the point of falling down, but he set it up straight. (Moses) said: "If thou hadst wished, surely thou couldst have exacted some recompense for it!" |

নৌকাটির ব্যাপারে-সেটি ছিল কয়েকজন দরিদ্র ব্যক্তির। তারা সমুদ্রে জীবিকা অন্বেষন করত। আমি ইচ্ছা করলাম যে, সেটিকে ক্রটিযুক্ত করে দেই। তাদের অপরদিকে ছিল এক বাদশাহ। সে বলপ্রয়োগে প্রত্যেকটি নৌকা ছিনিয়ে নিত।
"As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force. |

প্রাচীরের ব্যাপার-সেটি ছিল নগরের দুজন পিতৃহীন বালকের। এর নীচে ছিল তাদের গুপ্তধন এবং তাদের পিতা ছিল সৎকর্ম পরায়ন। সুতরাং আপনার পালনকর্তা দায়বশতঃ ইচ্ছা করলেন যে, তারা যৌবনে পদার্পন করুক এবং নিজেদের গুপ্তধন উদ্ধার করুক। আমি নিজ মতে এটা করিনি। আপনি যে বিষয়ে ধৈর্য্যধারণ করতে অক্ষম হয়েছিলেন, এই হল তার ব্যাখ্যা।
"As for the wall, it belonged to two youths, orphans, in the Town; there was, beneath it, a buried treasure, to which they were entitled: their father had been a righteous man: So thy Lord desired that they should attain their age of full strength and get out their treasure - a mercy (and favour) from thy Lord. I did it not of my own accord. Such is the interpretation of (those things) over which thou wast unable to hold patience." |

মূসা বললেনঃ দূর হ, তোর জন্য সারা জীবন এ শাস্তিই রইল যে, তুই বলবি; আমাকে স্পর্শ করো না, এবং তোর জন্য একটি নির্দিষ্ট ওয়াদা আছে, যার ব্যতিক্রম হবে না। তুই তোর সেই ইলাহের প্রতি লক্ষ্য কর, যাকে তুই ঘিরে থাকতি। আমরা সেটি জালিয়ে দেবই। অতঃপর একে বিক্ষিপ্ত করে সাগরে ছড়িয়ে দেবই।
(Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" |

যেদিন আকাশ বিদীর্ণ হবে তখন সেটি রক্তবর্ণে রঞ্জিত চামড়ার মত হয়ে যাবে।
When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment: |
