মূসার পরে তুমি কি বনী ইসরাঈলের একটি দলকে দেখনি, যখন তারা বলেছে নিজেদের নবীর কাছে যে, আমাদের জন্য একজন বাদশাহ নির্ধারিত করে দিন যাতে আমরা আল্লাহর পথে যুদ্ধ করতে পারি। নবী বললেন, তোমাদের প্রতিও কি এমন ধারণা করা যায় যে, লড়াইর হুকুম যদি হয়, তাহলে তখন তোমরা লড়বে না? তারা বলল, আমাদের কি হয়েছে যে, আমরা আল্লাহর পথে লড়াই করব না। অথচ আমরা বিতাড়িত হয়েছি নিজেদের ঘর-বাড়ী ও সন্তান-সন্ততি থেকে। অতঃপর যখন লড়াইয়ের নির্দেশ হলো, তখন সামান্য কয়েকজন ছাড়া তাদের সবাই ঘুরে দাঁড়ালো। আর আল্লাহ তা’আলা জালেমদের ভাল করেই জানেন।
Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? they said to a prophet (That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong. |

আর তাদেরকে তাদের নবী বললেন, নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ তালূতকে তোমাদের জন্য বাদশাহ সাব্যস্ত করেছেন। তারা বলতে লাগল তা কেমন করে হয় যে, তার শাসন চলবে আমাদের উপর। অথচ রাষ্ট্রক্ষমতা পাওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে তার চেয়ে আমাদেরই অধিকার বেশী। আর সে সম্পদের দিক দিয়েও সচ্ছল নয়। নবী বললেন, নিশ্চয় আল্লাহ তোমাদের উপর তাকে পছন্দ করেছেন এবং স্বাস্থ্য ও জ্ঞানের দিক দিয়ে প্রাচুর্য দান করেছেন। বস্তুতঃ আল্লাহ তাকেই রাজ্য দান করেন, যাকে ইচ্ছা। আর আল্লাহ হলেন অনুগ্রহ দানকারী এবং সব বিষয়ে অবগত।
Their Prophet said to them: "Allah hath appointed Talut as king over you." They said: "How can he exercise authority over us when we are better fitted than he to exercise authority, and he is not even gifted, with wealth in abundance?" He said: "Allah hath Chosen him above you, and hath gifted him abundantly with knowledge and bodily prowess: Allah Granteth His authority to whom He pleaseth. Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things." |

আর আল্লাহর জন্যই হল আসমান ও যমিনের বাদশাহী। আল্লাহই সর্ব বিষয়ে ক্ষমতার অধিকারী।
To Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth; and Allah hath power over all things. |

বাদশাহ বললঃ আমি স্বপ্নে দেখলাম, সাতটি মোটাতাজা গাভী-এদেরকে সাতটি শীর্ণ গাভী খেয়ে যাচ্ছে এবং সাতটি সবুজ শীষ ও অন্যগুলো শুষ্ক। হে পরিষদবর্গ! তোমরা আমাকে আমার স্বপ্নের ব্যাখ্যা বল, যদি তোমরা স্বপ্নের ব্যাখ্যায় পারদর্শী হয়ে থাক।
The king (of Egypt) said: "I do see (in a vision) seven fat kine, whom seven lean ones devour, and seven green ears of corn, and seven (others) withered. O ye chiefs! Expound to me my vision if it be that ye can interpret visions." |

বাদশাহ বললঃ ফিরে যাও তোমাদের প্রভুর কাছে এবং জিজ্ঞেস কর তাকে ঐ মহিলার স্বরূপ কি, যারা স্বীয় হস্ত কর্তন করেছিল! আমার পালনকর্তা তো তাদের ছলনা সবই জানেন।
So the king said: "Bring ye him unto me." But when the messenger came to him, (Joseph) said: "Go thou back to thy lord, and ask him, 'What is the state of mind of the ladies who cut their hands'? For my Lord is certainly well aware of their snare." |

বাদশাহ মহিলাদেরকে বললেনঃ তোমাদের হাল-হাকিকত কি, যখন তোমরা ইউসুফকে আত্মসংবরণ থেকে ফুসলিয়েছিলে? তারা বললঃ আল্লাহ মহান, আমরা তার সম্পর্কে মন্দ কিছু জানি না। আযীয-পত্মি বললঃ এখন সত্য কথা প্রকাশ হয়ে গেছে। আমিই তাকে আত্মসংবরণ থেকে ফুসলিয়েছিলাম এবং সে সত্যবাদী।
(The king) said (to the ladies): "What was your affair when ye did seek to seduce Joseph from his (true) self?" The ladies said: "Allah preserve us! no evil know we against him!" Said the 'Aziz's wife: "Now is the truth manifest (to all): it was I who sought to seduce him from his (true) self: He is indeed of those who are (ever) true (and virtuous). |

বাদশাহ বললঃ তাকে আমার কাছে নিয়ে এসো। আমি তাকে নিজের বিশ্বস্ত সহচর করে রাখব। অতঃপর যখন তার সাথে মতবিনিময় করল, তখন বললঃ নিশ্চয়ই আপনি আমার কাছে আজ থেকে বিশ্বস্ত হিসাবে মর্যাদার স্থান লাভ করেছেন।
So the king said: "Bring him unto me; I will take him specially to serve about my own person." Therefore when he had spoken to him, he said: "Be assured this day, thou art, before our own presence, with rank firmly established, and fidelity fully proved! |

তারা বললঃ আমরা বাদশাহর পানপাত্র হারিয়েছি এবং যে কেউ এটা এনে দেবে সে এক উটের বোঝা পরিমাণ মাল পাবে এবং আমি এর যামিন।
They said: "We miss the great beaker of the king; for him who produces it, is (the reward of) a camel load; I will be bound by it." |

অতঃপর ইউসুফ আপন ভাইদের থলের পূর্বে তাদের থলে তল্লাশী শুরু করলেন। অবশেষে সেই পাত্র আপন ভাইয়ের থলের মধ্য থেকে বের করলেন। এমনিভাবে আমি ইউসুফকে কৌশল শিক্ষা দিয়েছিলাম। সে বাদশাহর আইনে আপন ভাইকে কখনও দাসত্বে দিতে পারত না, কিু栦#2438;ল্লাহ যদি ইচ্ছা করেন। আমি যাকে ইচ্ছা, মর্যাদায় উন্নীত করি এবং প্রত্যেক জ্ঞানীর উপরে আছে অধিকতর এক জ্ঞানীজন।
So he began (the search) with their baggage, before (he came to) the baggage of his brother: at length he brought it out of his brother's baggage. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not take his brother by the law of the king except that Allah willed it (so). We raise to degrees (of wisdom) whom We please: but over all endued with knowledge is one, the All-Knowing. |

নৌকাটির ব্যাপারে-সেটি ছিল কয়েকজন দরিদ্র ব্যক্তির। তারা সমুদ্রে জীবিকা অন্বেষন করত। আমি ইচ্ছা করলাম যে, সেটিকে ক্রটিযুক্ত করে দেই। তাদের অপরদিকে ছিল এক বাদশাহ। সে বলপ্রয়োগে প্রত্যেকটি নৌকা ছিনিয়ে নিত।
"As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force. |
