হে মুমিনগণ, তোমাদের প্রতি আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহ স্মরণ কর, যখন এক সম্প্রদায় তোমাদের দিকে স্বীয় হস্ত প্রসারিত করতে সচেষ্ট হয়েছিল, তখন তিনি তাদের হস্ত তোমাদের থেকে প্রতিহত করে দিলেন। আল্লাহকে ভয় কর এবং মুমিনদের আল্লাহর উপরই ভরসা করা উচিত।
O ye who believe! Call in remembrance the favour of Allah unto you when certain men formed the design to stretch out their hands against you, but (Allah) held back their hands from you: so fear Allah. And on Allah let believers put (all) their trust. |

যদি তুমি আমাকে হত্যা করতে আমার দিকে হস্ত প্রসারিত কর, তবে আমি তোমাকে হত্যা করতে তোমার দিকে হস্ত প্রসারিত করব না। কেননা, আমি বিশ্বজগতের পালনকর্তা আল্লাহকে ভয় করি।
"If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for me to stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear Allah, the cherisher of the worlds. |

ঐ ব্যক্তির চাইতে বড় জালেম কে হবে, যে আল্লাহর প্রতি মিথ্যা আরোপ করে অথবা বলেঃ আমার প্রতি ওহী অবতীর্ণ হয়েছে। অথচ তার প্রতি কোন ওহী আসেনি এবং যে দাবী করে যে, আমিও নাযিল করে দেখাচ্ছি যেমন আল্লাহ নাযিল করেছেন। যদি আপনি দেখেন যখন জালেমরা মৃত্যু যন্ত্রণায় থাকে এবং ফেরেশতারা স্বীয় হস্ত প্রসারিত করে বলে, বের কর স্বীয় আত্মা! অদ্য তোমাদেরকে অবমাননাকর শাস্তি প্রদান করা হবে। কারণ, তোমরা আল্লাহর উপর অসত্য বলতে এবং তাঁর আয়াত সমূহ থেকে অহংকার করতে।
Who can be more wicked than one who inventeth a lie against Allah, or saith, "I have received inspiration," when he hath received none, or (again) who saith, "I can reveal the like of what Allah hath revealed"? If thou couldst but see how the wicked (do fare) in the flood of confusion at death! - the angels stretch forth their hands, (saying),"Yield up your souls: this day shall ye receive your reward,- a penalty of shame, for that ye used to tell lies against Allah, and scornfully to reject of His signs!" |

কিন্তু যখন দেখলেন যে, আহার্য্যের দিকে তাদের হস্ত প্রসারিত হচ্ছে না, তখন তিনি সন্ধিগ্ধ হলেন এবং মনে মনে তাঁদের সম্পর্কে ভয় অনুভব করতে লাগলেন। তারা বলল-ভয় পাবেন না। আমরা লূতের কওমের প্রতি প্রেরিত হয়েছি।
But when he saw their hands went not towards the (meal), he felt some mistrust of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said: "Fear not: We have been sent against the people of Lut." |

সত্যের আহবান একমাত্র তাঁরই এবং তাকে ছাড়া যাদেরকে ডাকে, তারা তাদের কোন কাজে আসে না; ওদের দৃষ্টান্ত সেরূপ, যেমন কেউ দু’ হাত পানির দিকে প্রসারিত করে যাতে পানি তার মুখে পৌঁছে যায়। অথচ পানি কোন সময় পৌঁছাবে না। কাফেরদের যত আহবান তার সবই পথভ্রষ্টতা।
For Him (alone) is prayer in Truth: any others that they call upon besides Him hear them no more than if they were to stretch forth their hands for water to reach their mouths but it reaches them not: for the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile) wandering (in the mind). |

তুমি মনে করবে তারা জাগ্রত, অথচ তারা নিদ্রিত। আমি তাদেরকে পার্শ্ব পরিবর্তন করাই ডান দিকে ও বাম দিকে। তাদের কুকুর ছিল সামনের পা দুটি গুহাদ্বারে প্রসারিত করে। যদি তুমি উঁকি দিয়ে তাদেরকে দেখতে, তবে পেছন ফিরে পলায়ন করতে এবং তাদের ভয়ে আতংক গ্রস্ত হয়ে পড়তে।
Thou wouldst have deemed them awake, whilst they were asleep, and We turned them on their right and on their left sides: their dog stretching forth his two fore-legs on the threshold: if thou hadst come up on to them, thou wouldst have certainly turned back from them in flight, and wouldst certainly have been filled with terror of them. |

তোমাদেরকে করতলগত করতে পারলে তারা তোমাদের শত্রু হয়ে যাবে এবং মন্দ উদ্দেশ্যে তোমাদের প্রতি বাহু ও রসনা প্রসারিত করবে এবং চাইবে যে, কোনরূপে তোমরা ও কাফের হয়ে যাও।
If they were to get the better of you, they would behave to you as enemies, and stretch forth their hands and their tongues against you for evil: and they desire that ye should reject the Truth. |
