বস্তুতঃ আমি একমাত্র এই উদ্দেশ্যেই রসূল প্রেরণ করেছি, যাতে আল্লাহর নির্দেশানুযায়ী তাঁদের আদেশ-নিষেধ মান্য করা হয়। আর সেসব লোক যখন নিজেদের অনিষ্ট সাধন করেছিল, তখন যদি আপনার কাছে আসত অতঃপর আল্লাহর নিকট ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করত এবং রসূলও যদি তাদেরকে ক্ষমা করিয়ে দিতেন। অবশ্যই তারা আল্লাহকে ক্ষমাকারী, মেহেরবানরূপে পেত।
We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. |

কিন্তু যারা এমন সম্প্রদায়ের সাথে মিলিত হয় যে, তোমাদের মধ্যে ও তাদের মধ্যে চুক্তি আছে অথবা তোমাদের কাছে এভাবে আসে যে, তাদের অন্তর তোমাদের সাথে এবং স্বজাতির সাথেও যুদ্ধ করতে অনিচ্ছুক। যদি আল্লাহ ইচ্ছে করতেন, তবে তোমাদের উপর তাদেরকে প্রবল করে দিতেন। ফলে তারা অবশ্যই তোমাদের সাথে যুদ্ধ করত। অতঃপর যদি তারা তোমাদের থেকে পৃথক থাকে তোমাদের সাথে যুদ্ধ না করে এবং তোমাদের সাথে সন্ধি করে, তবে আল্লাহ তোমাদের কে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কোন পথ দেননি।
Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty (of peace), or those who approach you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them). |

আমি তওরাত অবর্তীর্ন করেছি। এতে হেদায়াত ও আলো রয়েছে। আল্লাহর আজ্ঞাবহ পয়গম্বর, দরবেশ ও আলেমরা এর মাধ্যমে ইহুদীদেরকে ফয়সালা দিতেন। কেননা, তাদেরকে এ খোদায়ী গ্রন্থের দেখাশোনা করার নির্দেশ দেয়া হয়েছিল এবং তাঁরা এর রক্ষণাবেক্ষণে নিযুক্ত ছিলেন। অতএব, তোমরা মানুষকে ভয় করো না এবং আমাকে ভয় কর এবং আমার আয়াত সমূহের বিনিময়ে স্বল্পমূল্যে গ্রহণ করো না, যেসব লোক আল্লাহ যা অবতীর্ণ করেছেন, তদনুযায়ী ফায়সালা করে না, তারাই কাফের।
It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah's book, and they were witnesses thereto: therefore fear not men, but fear me, and sell not my signs for a miserable price. If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) Unbelievers. |

বস্তুতঃ আল্লাহ যদি তাদের মধ্যে কিছুমাত্র শুভ চিন্তা জানতেন, তবে তাদেরকে শুনিয়ে দিতেন। আর এখনই যদি তাদের শুনিয়ে দেন, তবে তারা মুখ ঘুরিয়ে পালিয়ে যাবে।
If Allah had found in them any good. He would indeed have made them listen: (As it is), if He had made them listen, they would but have turned back and declined (Faith). |

সকালে মূসা জননীর অন্তর অস্থির হয়ে পড়ল। যদি আমি তাঁর হৃদয়কে দৃঢ় করে না দিতাম, তবে তিনি মূসাজনিত অস্থিরতা প্রকাশ করেই দিতেন। দৃঢ় করলাম, যাতে তিনি থাকেন বিশ্ববাসীগণের মধ্যে।
But there came to be a void in the heart of the mother of Moses: She was going almost to disclose his (case), had We not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer. |

গতকল্য যারা তার মত হওয়ার বাসনা প্রকাশ করেছিল, তারা প্রত্যুষে বলতে লাগল, হায়, আল্লাহ তাঁর বান্দাদের মধ্যে যার জন্যে ইচ্ছা রিযিক বর্ধিত করেন ও হ্রাস করেন। আল্লাহ আমাদের প্রতি অনুগ্রহ না করলে আমাদেরকেও ভূগর্ভে বিলীন করে দিতেন। হায়, কাফেররা সফলকাম হবে না।
And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: "Ah! it is indeed Allah Who enlarges the provision or restricts it, to any of His servants He pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up! Ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper." |

নাকি তারা একথা বলে যে, তিনি আল্লাহর বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা রটনা করেছেন? আল্লাহ ইচ্ছা করলে আপনার অন্তরে মোহর এঁটে দিতেন। বস্তুতঃ তিনি মিথ্যাকে মিটিয়ে দেন এবং নিজ বাক্য দ্বারা সত্যকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেন। নিশ্চয় তিনি অন্তর্নিহিত বিষয় সম্পর্কে সর্বিশেষ জ্ঞাত।
What! Do they say, "He has forged a falsehood against Allah"? But if Allah willed, He could seal up thy heart. And Allah blots out Vanity, and proves the Truth by His Words. For He knows well the secrets of all hearts. |

আল্লাহ যদি তাদের জন্যে নির্বাসন অবধারিত না করতেন, তবে তাদেরকে দুনিয়াতে শাস্তি দিতেন। আর পরকালে তাদের জন্যে রয়েছে জাহান্নামের আযাব।
And had it not been that Allah had decreed banishment for them, He would certainly have punished them in this world: And in the Hereafter they shall (certainly) have the Punishment of the Fire. |
