খয়রাত ঐ সকল গরীব লোকের জন্যে যারা আল্লাহর পথে আবদ্ধ হয়ে গেছে-জীবিকার সন্ধানে অন্যত্র ঘোরাফেরা করতে সক্ষম নয়। অজ্ঞ লোকেরা যাঞ্চা না করার কারণে তাদেরকে অভাবমুক্ত মনে করে। তোমরা তাদেরকে তাদের লক্ষণ দ্বারা চিনবে। তারা মানুষের কাছে কাকুতি-মিনতি করে ভিক্ষা চায় না। তোমরা যে অর্থ ব্যয় করবে, তা আল্লাহ তা’আলা অবশ্যই পরিজ্ঞাত।
(Charity is) for those in need, who, in Allah's cause are restricted (from travel), and cannot move about in the land, seeking (For trade or work): the ignorant man thinks, because of their modesty, that they are free from want. Thou shalt know them by their (Unfailing) mark: They beg not importunately from all the sundry. And whatever of good ye give, be assured Allah knoweth it well. |

অতঃপর তাদের কাছে যখন আমার আযাব আসল, তখন কেন কাকুতি-মিনতি করল না ? বস্তুতঃ তাদের অন্তর কঠোর হয়ে গেল এবং শয়তান তাদের কাছে সুশোভিত করে দেখাল, যে কাজ তারা করছিল।
When the suffering reached them from us, why then did they not learn humility? On the contrary their hearts became hardened, and Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them. |

তোমরা স্বীয় প্রতিপালককে ডাক, কাকুতি-মিনতি করে এবং সংগোপনে। তিনি সীমা অতিক্রমকারীদেরকে পছন্দ করেন না।
Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds. |
