আর যখন তোমার পালনকর্তা বনী আদমের পৃষ্টদেশ থেকে বের করলেন তাদের সন্তানদেরকে এবং নিজের উপর তাদেরকে প্রতিজ্ঞা করালেন, আমি কি তোমাদের পালনকর্তা নই ? তারা বলল, অবশ্যই, আমরা অঙ্গীকার করছি। আবার না কেয়ামতের দিন বলতে শুরু কর যে, এ বিষয়টি আমাদের জানা ছিল না।
When thy Lord drew forth from the Children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants, and made them testify concerning themselves, (saying): "Am I not your Lord (who cherishes and sustains you)?"- They said: "Yea! We do testify!" (This), lest ye should say on the Day of Judgment: "Of this we were never mindful": |

আল্লাহ দৃষ্টান্ত বর্ণনা করেছেন একটি জনপদের, যা ছিল নিরাপদ ও নিশ্চিন্ত, তথায় প্রত্যেক জায়গা থেকে আসত প্রচুর জীবনোপকরণ। অতঃপর তারা আল্লাহর নেয়ামতের প্রতি অকৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করল। তখন আল্লাহ তাদেরকে তাদের কৃতকর্মের কারণে স্বাদ আস্বাদন করালেন, ক্ষুধা ও ভীতির।
Allah sets forth a Parable: a city enjoying security and quiet, abundantly supplied with sustenance from every place: Yet was it ungrateful for the favours of Allah: so Allah made it taste of hunger and terror (in extremes) (closing in on it) like a garment (from every side), because of the (evil) which (its people) wrought. |

অতঃপর মূসা তাদের জন্তুদেরকে পানি পান করালেন। অতঃপর তিনি ছায়ার দিকে সরে গেলেন এবং বললেন, হে আমার পালনকর্তা, তুমি আমার প্রতি যে অনুগ্রহ নাযিল করবে, আমি তার মুখাপেক্ষী।
So he watered (their flocks) for them; then he turned back to the shade, and said:"O my Lord! truly am I in (desperate) need of any good that Thou dost send me!" |

অতঃপর লটারী (সুরতি) করালে তিনি দোষী সাব্যস্ত হলেন।
He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned: |

অতঃপর আল্লাহ তাদেরকে পার্থিব জীবনে লাঞ্ছনার স্বাদ আস্বাদন করালেন, আর পরকালের আযাব হবে আরও গুরুতর, যদি তারা জানত!
So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew! |
