তারপর তাদের পেছনে এসেছে কিছু অপদার্থ, যারা উত্তরাধিকারী হয়েছে কিতাবের; তারা নিকৃষ্ট পার্থিব উপকরণ আহরণ করছে এবং বলছে, আমাদের ক্ষমা করে দেয়া হবে। বস্তুতঃ এমনি ধরনের উপকরণ যদি আবারো তাদের সামনে উপস্থিত হয়, তবে তাও তুলে নেবে। তাদের কাছথেকে কিতাবে কি অঙ্গীকার নেয়া হয়নি যে, আল্লাহর প্রতি সত্য ছাড়া কিছু বলবে না? অথচ তারা সে সবই পাঠ করেছে, যা তাতে লেখা রয়েছে। বস্তুতঃ আখেরাতের আলয় ভীতদের জন্য উত্তম-তোমরা কি তা বোঝ না ?
After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the Book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand? |

হে ঈমানদারগণ, তোমাদের কি হল, যখন আল্লাহর পথে বের হবার জন্যে তোমাদের বলা হয়, তখন মাটি জড়িয়ে ধর, তোমরা কি আখেরাতের পরিবর্তে দুনিয়ার জীবনে পরিতুষ্ট হয়ে গেলে? অথচ আখেরাতের তুলনায় দুনিয়ার জীবনের উপকরণ অতি অল্প।
O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of this life, as compared with the Hereafter. |

চতুষ্পদ জন্তুকে তিনি সৃষ্টি করেছেন। এতে তোমাদের জন্যে শীত বস্ত্রের উপকরণ আছে। আর অনেক উপকার হয়েছে এবং কিছু সংখ্যককে তোমরা আহার্যে?2474;রিণত করে থাক।
And cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) ye eat. |

আমি এদের বিভিন্ন প্রকার লোককে পরীক্ষা করার জন্যে পার্থিবজীবনের সৌন্দর্য স্বরূপ ভোগ-বিলাসের যে উপকরণ দিয়েছি, আপনি সেই সব বস্তুর প্রতি দৃষ্টি নিক্ষেপ করবেন না। আপনার পালনকর্তার দেয়া রিযিক উৎকৃষ্ট ও অধিক স্থায়ী।
Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them: but the provision of thy Lord is better and more enduring. |

আমি যদি ক্রীড়া উপকরণ সৃষ্টি করতে চাইতাম, তবে আমি আমার কাছে যা আছে তা দ্বারাই তা করতাম, যদি আমাকে করতে হত।
If it had been Our wish to take (just) a pastime, We should surely have taken it from the things nearest to Us, if We would do (such a thing)! |

আল্লাহ দিন ও রাত্রির পরিবর্তন ঘটান। এতে অর্ন্তদৃষ্টি-সম্পন্নগণের জন্যে চিন্তার উপকরণ রয়েছে।
It is Allah Who alternates the Night and the Day: verily in these things is an instructive example for those who have vision! |

কত সুখের উপকরণ, যাতে তারা খোশগল্প করত।
And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! |

তোমরা জেনে রাখ, পার্থিব জীবন ক্রীড়া-কৌতুক, সাজ-সজ্জা, পারস্পরিক অহমিকা এবং ধন ও জনের প্রাচুর্য ব্যতীত আর কিছু নয়, যেমন এক বৃষ্টির অবস্থা, যার সবুজ ফসল কৃষকদেরকে চমৎকৃত করে, এরপর তা শুকিয়ে যায়, ফলে তুমি তাকে পীতবর্ণ দেখতে পাও, এরপর তা খড়কুটা হয়ে যায়। আর পরকালে আছে কঠিন শাস্তি এবং আল্লাহর ক্ষমা ও সন্তুষ্টি। পার্থিব জীবন প্রতারণার উপকরণ বৈ কিছু নয়।
Know ye (all), that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting and multiplying, (in rivalry) among yourselves, riches and children. Here is a similitude: How rain and the growth which it brings forth, delight (the hearts of) the tillers; soon it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then it becomes dry and crumbles away. But in the Hereafter is a Penalty severe (for the devotees of wrong). And Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the devotees of Allah). And what is the life of this world, but goods and chattels of deception? |
