কি আশ্চর্য, যখন তারা কোন অঙ্গীকারে আবদ্ধ হয়, তখন তাদের একদল তা ছুঁড়ে ফেলে, বরং অধিকাংশই বিশ্বাস করে না।
Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside?- Nay, Most of them are faithless. |

তোমরাই হলে সর্বোত্তম উম্মত, মানবজাতির কল্যানের জন্যেই তোমাদের উদ্ভব ঘটানো হয়েছে। তোমরা সৎকাজের নির্দেশ দান করবে ও অন্যায় কাজে বাধা দেবে এবং আল্লাহর প্রতি ঈমান আনবে। আর আহলে-কিতাবরা যদি ঈমান আনতো, তাহলে তা তাদের জন্য মঙ্গলকর হতো। তাদের মধ্যে কিছু তো রয়েছে ঈমানদার আর অধিকাংশই হলো পাপাচারী।
Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors. |

বলুনঃ হে আহলে কিতাবগণ, আমাদের সাথে তোমাদের এছাড়া কি শত্রুতা যে, আমরা বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করেছি আল্লাহর প্রতি, আমাদের উপর অবতীর্ণ গ্রন্থের প্রতি এবং পূর্বে অবতীর্ণ গ্রন্থের প্রতি। আর তোমাদের অধিকাংশই নাফরমান।
Say: "O people of the Book! Do ye disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us), and (perhaps) that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?" |
(আল মায়িদাহ:
আয়াতঃ ৫৯) |

তারা ধারণা করেছে যে, কোন অনিষ্ট হবে না। ফলে তারা আরও অন্ধ ও বধির হয়ে গেল। অতঃপর আল্লাহ তাদের তওবা কবুল করলেন। এরপরও তাদের অধিকাংশই অন্ধ ও বধির হয়ে রইল। আল্লাহ দেখেন তারা যা কিছু করে।
They thought there would be no trial (or punishment); so they became blind and deaf; yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them; yet again many of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well all that they do. |

তারা বলেঃ তার প্রতি তার পালনকর্তার পক্ষ থেকে কোন নিদর্শন অবতীর্ণ হয়নি কেন? বলে দিনঃ আল্লাহ নিদর্শন অবতরণ করতে পূর্ন সক্ষম; কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই জানে না।
They say: "Why is not a sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "Allah hath certainly power to send down a sign: but most of them understand not. |
(আল আনআম:
আয়াতঃ ৩৭) |

আমি যদি তাদের কাছে ফেরেশতাদেরকে অবতারণ করতাম এবং তাদের সাথে মৃতরা কথাবার্তা বলত এবং আমি সব বস্তুকে তাদের সামনে জীবিত করে দিতাম, তথাপি তারা কখনও বিশ্বাস স্থাপনকারী নয়; কিন্তু যদি আল্লাহ চান। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই মুর্খ।
Even if We did send unto them angels, and the dead did speak unto them, and We gathered together all things before their very eyes, they are not the ones to believe, unless it is in Allah's plan. But most of them ignore (the truth). |

আর তাদের মধ্যে এমন কি বিষয় রয়েছে, যার ফলে আল্লাহ তাদের উপর আযাব দান করবেন না। অথচ তারা মসজিদে-হারামে যেতে বাধাদান করে, অথচ তাদের সে অধিকার নেই। এর অধিকার তো তাদেরই রয়েছে যারা পরহেযগার। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই সে বিষয়ে অবহিত নয়।
But what plea have they that Allah should not punish them, when they keep out (men) from the sacred Mosque - and they are not its guardians? No men can be its guardians except the righteous; but most of them do not understand. |

বস্তুতঃ তাদের অধিকাংশই শুধু আন্দাজ-অনুমানের উপর চলে, অথচ আন্দাজ-অনুমান সত্যের বেলায় কোন কাজেই আসে না। আল্লাহ ভাল করেই জানেন, তারা যা কিছু করে।
But most of them follow nothing but fancy: truly fancy can be of no avail against truth. Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do. |

তারা আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহ চিনে, এরপর অস্বীকার করে এবং তাদের অধিকাংশই অকৃতজ্ঞ।
They recognise the favours of Allah; then they deny them; and most of them are (creatures) ungrateful. |

তারা কি আল্লাহ ব্যতীত অন্যান্য উপাস্য গ্রহণ করেছে? বলুন, তোমরা তোমাদের প্রমাণ আন। এটাই আমার সঙ্গীদের কথা এবং এটাই আমার পুর্ববর্তীদের কথা। বরং তাদের অধিকাংশই সত্য জানে না; অতএব তারা টালবাহানা করে।
Or have they taken for worship (other) gods besides him? Say, "Bring your convincing proof: this is the Message of those with me and the Message of those before me." But most of them know not the Truth, and so turn away. |

নিশ্চয় এতে নিদর্শন আছে, কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই বিশ্বাসী নয়।
Verily, in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. |

অতএব, তারা তাঁকে মিথ্যাবাদী বলতে লাগল এবং আমি তাদেরকে নিপাত করে দিলাম। এতে অবশ্যই নিদর্শন আছে; কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই বিশ্বাসী নয়।
So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. |

এরপর আযাব তাদেরকে পাকড়াও করল। নিশ্চয় এতে নিদর্শন আছে। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই বিশ্বাসী নয়।
But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. |

তারা শ্রুত কথা এনে দেয় এবং তাদের অধিকাংশই মিথ্যাবাদী।
(Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. |

বল তো কে পৃথিবীকে বাসোপযোগী করেছেন এবং তার মাঝে মাঝে নদ-নদী প্রবাহিত করেছেন এবং তাকে স্থিত রাখার জন্যে পর্বত স্থাপন করেছেন এবং দুই সমুদ্রের মাঝখানে অন্তরায় রেখেছেন। অতএব, আল্লাহর সাথে অন্য কোন উপাস্য আছে কি? বরং তাদের অধিকাংশই জানে না।
Or, Who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two bodies of flowing water? (can there be another) god besides Allah? Nay, most of them know not. |

আপনার পালনকর্তা মানুষের প্রতি অনুগ্রহশীল, কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করে না।
But verily thy Lord is full of grace to mankind: Yet most of them are ungrateful. |
(নমল:

তারা বলে, যদি আমরা আপনার সাথে সুপথে আসি, তবে আমরা আমাদের দেশ থেকে উৎখাত হব। আমি কি তাদের জন্যে একটি নিরাপদ হরম প্রতিষ্ঠিত করিনি? এখানে সর্বপ্রকার ফল-মূল আমদানী হয় আমার দেয়া রিযিকস্বরূপ। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই জানে না।
They say: "If we were to follow the guidance with thee, we should be snatched away from our land." Have We not established for them a secure sanctuary, to which are brought as tribute fruits of all kinds,- a provision from Ourselves? but most of them understand not. |

যদি আপনি তাদেরকে জিজ্ঞেস করেন, কে আকাশ থেকে বারি বর্ষণ করে, অতঃপর তা দ্বারা মৃত্তিকাকে উহার মৃত হওয়ার পর সঞ্জীবিত করে? তবে তারা অবশ্যই বলবে, আল্লাহ। বলুন, সমস্ত প্রশংসা আল্লাহরই। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই তা বোঝে না।
And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, "Allah!" Say, "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not. |

আয়াতঃ ৬৩) |

বলুন, তোমরা পৃথিবীতে পরিভ্রমণ কর এবং দেখ তোমাদের পুর্ববর্তীদের পরিণাম কি হয়েছে। তাদের অধিকাংশই ছিল মুশরিক।
Say: "Travel through the earth and see what was the end of those before (you): Most of them worshipped others besides Allah." |
(আর-রূম:
আয়াতঃ ৪২) |

আপনি যদি তাদেরকে জিজ্ঞেস করেন, নভোমন্ডল ও ভূ-মন্ডল কে সৃষ্টি করেছে? তারা অবশ্যই বলবে, আল্লাহ। বলুন, সকল প্রশংসাই আল্লাহর। বরং তাদের অধিকাংশই জ্ঞান রাখে না।
If thou ask them, who it is that created the heavens and the earth. They will certainly say, "Allah". Say: "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not. |
(লোকমান:
আয়াতঃ ২৫) |

ফেরেশতারা বলবে, আপনি পবিত্র, আমরা আপনার পক্ষে, তাদের পক্ষে নই, বরং তারা জিনদের পূজা করত। তাদের অধিকাংশই শয়তানে বিশ্বাসী।
They will say, "Glory to Thee! our (tie) is with Thee - as Protector - not with them. Nay, but they worshipped the Jinns: most of them believed in them." |

আল্লাহ এক দৃষ্টান্ত বর্ণনা করেছেনঃ একটি লোকের উপর পরস্পর বিরোধী কয়জন মালিক রয়েছে, আরেক ব্যক্তির প্রভু মাত্র একজন-তাদের উভয়ের অবস্থা কি সমান? সমস্ত প্রশংসা আল্লাহর। কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই জানে না।
Allah puts forth a Parable a man belonging to many partners at variance with each other, and a man belonging entirely to one master: are those two equal in comparison? Praise be to Allah! but most of them have no knowledge. |

মানুষকে যখন দুঃখ-কষ্ট স্পর্শ করে, তখন সে আমাকে ডাকতে শুরু করে, এরপর আমি যখন তাকে আমার পক্ষ থেকে নেয়ামত দান করি, তখন সে বলে, এটা তো আমি পূর্বের জানা মতেই প্রাপ্ত হয়েছি। অথচ এটা এক পরীক্ষা, কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই বোঝে না।
Now, when trouble touches man, he cries to Us: But when We bestow a favour upon him as from Ourselves, he says, "This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge (I have)!" Nay, but this is but a trial, but most of them understand not! |

সুসংবাদদাতা ও সতর্ককারীরূপে, অতঃপর তাদের অধিকাংশই মুখ ফিরিয়ে নিয়েছে, তারা শুনে না।
Giving good news and admonition: yet most of them turn away, and so they hear not. |
(হা-মীম সেজদাহ:

আমি তোমাদের কাছে সত্যধর্ম পৌঁছিয়েছি; কিন্তু তোমাদের অধিকাংশই সত্যধর্মে নিস্পৃহ!
Verily We have brought the Truth to you: but most of you have a hatred for Truth. |

আমি এগুলো যথাযথ উদ্দেশ্যে সৃষ্টি করেছি; কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই বোঝে না।
We created them not except for just ends: but most of them do not understand. |

| 32 |
যারা প্রাচীরের আড়াল থেকে আপনাকে উচুস্বরে ডাকে, তাদের অধিকাংশই অবুঝ।
Those who shout out to thee from without the inner apartments - most of them lack understanding. |

গোনাহগারদের জন্যে এছাড়া আরও শাস্তি রয়েছে, কিন্তু তাদের অধিকাংশই তা জানে না।
And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another punishment besides this: But most of them understand not. |

যারা মুমিন, তাদের জন্যে কি আল্লাহর স্মরণে এবং যে সত্য অবর্তীর্ণ হয়েছে, তার কারণে হৃদয় বিগলিত হওয়ার সময় আসেনি? তারা তাদের মত যেন না হয়, যাদেরকে পূর্বে কিতাব দেয়া হয়েছিল। তাদের উপর সুদীর্ঘকাল অতিক্রান্ত হয়েছে, অতঃপর তাদের অন্তঃকরণ কঠিন হয়ে গেছে। তাদের অধিকাংশই পাপাচারী।
Has not the Time arrived for the Believers that their hearts in all humility should engage in the remembrance of Allah and of the Truth which has been revealed (to them), and that they should not become like those to whom was given Revelation aforetime, but long ages passed over them and their hearts grew hard? For many among them are rebellious transgressors. |

আমি নূহ ও ইব্রাহীমকে রসূলরূপে প্রেরণ করেছি এবং তাদের বংশধরের মধ্যে নবুওয়ত ও কিতাব অব্যাহত রেখেছি। অতঃপর তাদের কতক সৎপথপ্রাপ্ত হয়েছে এবং অধিকাংশই হয়েছে পাপাচারী।
And We sent Noah and Abraham, and established in their line Prophethood and Revelation: and some of them were on right guidance. But many of them became rebellious transgressors. |

অতঃপর আমি তাদের পশ্চাতে প্রেরণ করেছি আমার রসূলগণকে এবং তাদের অনুগামী করেছি মরিয়ম তনয় ঈসাকে ও তাকে দিয়েছি ইঞ্জিল। আমি তার অনুসারীদের অন্তরে স্থাপন করেছি নম্রতা ও দয়া। আর বৈরাগ্য, সে তো তারা নিজেরাই উদ্ভাবন করেছে; আমি এটা তাদের উপর ফরজ করিনি; কিন্তু তারা আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টি লাভের জন্যে এটা অবলম্বন করেছে। অতঃপর তারা যথাযথভাবে তা পালন করেনি। তাদের মধ্যে যারা বিশ্বাসী ছিল, আমি তাদেরকে তাদের প্রাপ্য পুরস্কার দিয়েছি। আর তাদের অধিকাংশই পাপাচারী।
Then, in their wake, We followed them up with (others of) Our messengers: We sent after them Jesus the son of Mary, and bestowed on him the Gospel; and We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him Compassion and Mercy. But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them: (We commanded) only the seeking for the Good Pleasure of Allah; but that they did not foster as they should have done. Yet We bestowed, on those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are rebellious transgressors. |
