| 1 | মূসার পরে তুমি কি বনী ইসরাঈলের একটি দলকে দেখনি, যখন তারা বলেছে নিজেদের নবীর কাছে যে, আমাদের জন্য একজন বাদশাহ নির্ধারিত করে দিন যাতে আমরা আল্লাহর পথে যুদ্ধ করতে পারি। নবী বললেন, তোমাদের প্রতিও কি এমন ধারণা করা যায় যে, লড়াইর হুকুম যদি হয়, তাহলে তখন তোমরা লড়বে না? তারা বলল, আমাদের কি হয়েছে যে, আমরা আল্লাহর পথে লড়াই করব না। অথচ আমরা বিতাড়িত হয়েছি নিজেদের ঘর-বাড়ী ও সন্তান-সন্ততি থেকে। অতঃপর যখন লড়াইয়ের নির্দেশ হলো, তখন সামান্য কয়েকজন ছাড়া তাদের সবাই ঘুরে দাঁড়ালো। আর আল্লাহ তা’আলা জালেমদের ভাল করেই জানেন। Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses? they said to a prophet (That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible, if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong. |

| 2 | আর উপাসনা কর আল্লাহর, শরীক করো না তাঁর সাথে অপর কাউকে। পিতা-মাতার সাথে সৎ ও সদয় ব্যবহার কর এবং নিকটাত্নীয়, এতীম-মিসকীন, প্রতিবেশী, অসহায় মুসাফির এবং নিজের দাস-দাসীর প্রতিও। নিশ্চয়ই আল্লাহ পছন্দ করেন না দাম্ভিক-গর্বিতজনকে। Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good- to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (ye meet), and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious;- |

| 3 | আর আমি আপনার পূর্ববর্তী উম্মতদের প্রতিও পয়গম্বর প্রেরণ করেছিলাম। অতঃপর আমি তাদেরকে অভাব-অনটন ও রোগ-ব্যধি দ্বারা পাকড়াও করেছিলাম যাতে তারা কাকুতি মিনতি করে। Before thee We sent (messengers) to many nations, and We afflicted the nations with suffering and adversity, that they might learn humility. |

| 4 | আর তাদের মধ্য থেকে কারো মৃত্যু হলে তার উপর কখনও নামায পড়বেন না এবং তার কবরে দাঁড়াবেন না। তারা তো আল্লাহর প্রতি অস্বীকৃতি জ্ঞাপন করেছে এবং রসূলের প্রতিও। বস্তুতঃ তারা না ফরমান অবস্থায় মৃত্যু বরণ করেছে। Nor do thou ever pray for any of them that dies, nor stand at his grave; for they rejected Allah and His Messenger, and died in a state of perverse rebellion. |

| 5 | তাদের পূর্বে যে সব জ্বিন ও মানুষ গত হয়েছে, তাদের মধ্যে এ ধরনের লোকদের প্রতিও শাস্তিবানী অবধারিত হয়ে গেছে। নিশ্চয় তারা ছিল ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ। Such are they against whom is proved the sentence among the previous generations of Jinns and men, that have passed away; for they will be (utterly) lost. |
